About the Seminar Series
The Sun Extended Seminar Series in Climate and Complex Sysstem Dynamics is a collegial forum hosted in collaboration with the Harmony Institute for Earth Care for current and former students, postdoctoral researchers, collaborators, and invited scholars to present new research, exchange ideas, and maintain intellectual connections across institutions and career stages.
The series focuses broadly on climate dynamics and related areas, including climate variability and predictability, El Niño and the Southern Oscillation, atmosphere–ocean interaction, nonlinear and complex systems, modeling the climate system and other complex systems, extreme events, and physics-informed approaches to climate and complexity systems science.
The series is intended to be especially welcoming to young and early-career scientists. Its relatively informal and collegial atmosphere provides an attractive setting in which they can present work in progress, receive constructive feedback, refine their ideas, and develop confidence in communicating their research.
It also provides a valuable platform for senior scientists and professors to share important, influential, or particularly educational aspects of their research with younger generations of scientists. In this way, the series supports not only the dissemination of new results, but also the transmission of scientific insight, experience, and perspective across generations.Seminars are held online and, when possible, in person at Nanjing University Suzhou Campus. The series is intended not only as a venue for formal presentations, but also as a setting for open discussion, constructive feedback, and the development of new scientific ideas and collaborations.
How to Participate
Suggestions for future speakers and topics are welcome. Scientists at all career stages may also express interest in giving a talk. Both nominations and self-nominations are encouraged, particularly for presentations that are educational, stimulate broad scientific discussion, or introduce important new research.
Scientists interested in giving a talk, or in recommending a speaker or topic, are welcome to contact the Seminar Coordinator. Proposals will be considered in consultation with the Academic Advisory Commitee.
